Overview

This is a great, varied ride featuring the best sections of singletrack, jeep roads, and a couple of very short gravel connectors. You can ride the whole ride and stay on your bike with the exception of a few gates to open and close.

Need to Know

You go through a few gates on fence lines, be sure to put the gates up after going through. There is one short section of private ground we have permission to cross, please stay on the Lower Waterfall Canal trail, which you all most have to stay on the proceed.

Description

South-end riders can start at the parking area on top of the hill on Road #218 above the Y-intersection. North-end riders can park in a CRP grass field off Browns rd.

First time riders keep your MTB Project mobile app handy to track the route at intersections. This includes Ken's Corner, Buckskin Morgan Ridge, Hawleys Gulch (Top) Dam Waterfall Road, Upper Waterfall Canal, and Lower Waterfall Canal, which are all singletrack trails.

From the 218 parking area go through the gate and turn left onto the upper hawley trail. This is also a winter-x-country ski trail called Pine loop. Keep left as you follow this trail as it flows through the pine forest until it intersects with an old logging road. Turn left on the road and at the bottom of the hill watch for and ride left onto the singletrack as the trail loops back on itself. At the T intersection turn right and follow the singletrack back to Road 218, turn right and ride down the road about a hundred yards watching for a faint singletrack connector trail that will take you across to the Buckskin Morgan road.

Turn right and go down the road 200 yards and a established singletrack will head up the hill on your left. Follow this and it will intersect the Batman trail on a fence line. Go across the style crossing in the fence line to a forest road and turn left up and over the hill on this road. As you go down the hill on your right is a singletrack that is on the first corner that will take you to another logging road. Turn left and go up the hill and cross the Brown road onto a singletrack that will take you through a logged out area, keep left until you reach another road intersection at the head of State creek. You'll see a pond and stock water pump house off to your left. Jog right then left on a four wheeler track that will take you down State Creek on a really fun and fast downhill.

When you cross State creek turn left and follow an old road up and over a short hill until you reach a small dam and stock water pond. Turn left onto and cross on the dam crest on the singletrack. This is Tim's trail and follow this until you intersect the Brown road, turn right on the road then right again before you cross the cattle guard. Ride down the road and when it makes a gradual right hand curve there is a four wheeler trail that is on the left. Follow that trail to the left until it reaches a gate. Go through the gate and follow the road along the fence line on a very fast and fun down hill that the locals call the autobahn. At the end of the autobahn you come to a T intersection under a power line, turn left and then in a short distance turn right onto the Dam Waterfall Road. Go down this being aware that this is a multi purpose road used by foot traffic, four wheelers, motor cycles and a few crazies testing out their four wheel drive outfits. At the bottom of the canyon the singletrack upper waterfall canal trail starts off to the left. This is one of the very best single tracks in the area and is more than just fun to ride.

Turn onto Cabin Climb Trail which takes you back to Brown Road. Turn right on the gravel Brown Road. Take Browns Road - Ken's Corner Connector on your left and follow it up the bottom of the draw until you reach the ridge top. Follow the ridge until it enters the pine trees and drop right down the hill staying on the ridge until you reach Lyons road. Turn left then right onto Ken's Corner. Follow Ken's Corner to a left on Buckskin Morgan road then right onto Buckskin Morgan ridge that will take you to the parking area on Road #218

History & Background

The Waterfall canal was built by early pioneers on the Rexburg bench to water the livestock required to farm the dry farm area above Rexburg. The dam is know as the Webster dam and it has silted in and the Moody Creek cascading over the dam structure creates the waterfall.
