Description

Burns Basin Trail is one of the best trails in Wagonhammer. It skirts the upper end of Burns Basin and is a fun trail ridden in either direction. Once on this trail, it is straightforward to navigate.

From the upper end of Burns Gulch, Burns Basin crosses the gully and contours up to a low ridge. It continues contouring through a short, wooded section and more low, sage-covered, ridges.

The trail bears left and climbs steeply in the middle of the basin. This climb is broken up by one short hiccup of a downhill and the trail continues up to a saddle.

From the saddle, Burns Basin trail contours briefly then gets steep and loose for a fast shot down a face near a fence. The trail levels out and rolls up and over a hill to come to a final saddle and fence.

This spot is in the middle of the Lewis and Clark (Burns) trail that connects north to Big Silverlead. The start of Gas Can can be seen straight ahead and hanging a left will drop you back down into the Burns drainage.
