Description

The Fibreboard Freeway is not a mountain bike trail per se, but is a critical connector in making big epic loops possible. The road itself has very little vehicle traffic, epic views of the Lake and into Truckee. If you are going to do 20+ mile loops in the Tahoe City to Kings Beach area, chances are you'll be crossing the Fibreboard Freeway, or jumping on it for a bit to connect to the next section of singletrack.

The Fireboard Freeway crosses the Tahoe Rim Trail - Brockway Summit to Tahoe City section repeatedly, as well as some of the connectors in Burton Creek. It makes a great connector for the Mt. Watson section of the TRT, OTB, and even epic rides into Northstar's trail system.

It's great on the road bike, cross bike, or mountain bike (we regularly cross the Fibreboard on road bikes and ride the dirt descent of 16N71 - Bunker Drive to Burton Creek Connector into Tahoe City). Don't be fooled, the Fibreboard has few flat sections.

The Fibreboard is about 80% paved, and runs from Brockway Summit off Hwy 267 into Tahoe City. I've included the entire Fibreboard here, but few people ride the last part into Tahoe City opting for the 5.5 miles mostly singletrack descent on the TRT, dropping into Burton Creek State Park, or dropping into Tahoe City on 16N71 - Bunker Drive to Burton Creek Connector.

Note: The Fibreboard Freeway is not worth climbing from the Tahoe City side. It is steep, loose and has extended steep loose pitches. You'll have much more fun climbing on the TRT, 16N71 - Bunker Drive to Burton Creek Connector, or connecting through Burton Creek State Park.
