Description

Enjoy a step back in time as you bike along the Keeneys Creek Rail Trail. Once housing the railway connecting mining communities up Keeneys Creek to the main Chesapeake & Ohio rail line in Nuttallburg, this trail provides visitors a great opportunity to observe the sheer amount of engineering it took to create safe and operable railways along the New River corridor.

Gaze in wonder at the scale of construction that took place in this area over a hundred years ago as you head across trestle bridges built to create manageable grades for steam-engined trains.

Upon approaching the famous Nuttallburg coal conveyor near the western end of the trail, keep your eyes peeled for slag (a byproduct of coal production) blanketing the ground near the conveyor, paying tribute to Nuttallburg's rich mining history.

Made it .50 miles before turning around because of too many fallen trees.
