Tuscarora Trail: AT to Sterretts Gap

The trail is interesting because it goes from very technical to smooth and pleasant to somewhat bushy and technical. The first portion is partly uphill across big roots and slabby shale rock. There are a few log crossings. This part is a newer section of the Darlington Trail that was rerouted around some private property. Once on top of the ridge you'll find a mostly straight and smooth run. You'll cross the Appalachian Trail and intersect with Dean's Gap Road, which is closed to traffic. After Dean's Gap you'll enter into some older growth with nice canopy. The trail widens a bit until you get closer to Sterretts Gap. As you descend, the trail becomes rocky and turns into a seasonal stream. The trail pretty much disappears as you get at Sterretts Gap, but there are trail blazes to keep you on track until it spills you out onto Mountain Road, which can be taken back to Dean's Gap Road for a nice loop, if you like.
