These are great trails just minutes from Redmond. When you're tired of the busy trails around Bend, swing by Cline Butte for some great steep grades and fast downhills.

The "Buttes Trail Area" (BTA) is an ongoing BLM project that will result in 25+ miles of MTB trail. There are currently no trail names or maps. The trail starts midway up the first dirt road riser and continues unambiguously counter clockwise around the butte.

At the first intersection of singletrack, continue straight into a steep climb which quickly runs into a fireroad that will switchback you towards the top of the butte. Follow it for 0.11 miles to a right turn onto more singletrack looping the rest of the way around the butte.

On the SW corner of the butte, take a left on the fireroad which obviously leads to the top of the butte. Routing is your choice, but the long switchbacks are easier on the legs.

At the top of the climb as you approach the radio facility, singletrack on your right will detour you through technical trail along the south border of the fencing.

Once on the east side of the fencing, you have your choice of multiple downhill options:

1. The first option starts with a steep drop a few yards before the singletrack connects with the fire road. This is an experts-only downhill trail.
2. The second option starts a few yards down the fire road on the right. This is slightly less technical than the first trail, but still very challenging.
3. The third option is quite a bit farther down the fire road where the grade starts leveling out, and will bring you back to the initial singletrack intersection. Watch for steep rock drops mid-way down the trail.

At the intersection, make a right on the trail you climbed up on and speed your way back to the parking area.
