Don't ride this one when it's muddy. Lower Hulls Gulch Trail is directional based on the calendar day. You can only ride this loop counter-clockwise as shown on odd-numbered days of the month.

Overview

This is a great loop that is short enough to fit in on a weekday afternoon between "quittin' time" and dinner time. It will get you a quick 1100 feet of climbing and a fun descent.

Need to Know

To access the start you can either drive up 8th St to the Foothills Learning Center, or ride in from town using the trail systems that start at Camelsback Park or Military Reserve.

Directional Trail: One trail in this loop (Lower Hull's Gulch) is directional based on the calendar day. You can only ride the loop counter-clockwise as shown on odd-numbered days of the month. On even-numbered days you can only go the other way, which is clockwise going uphill on Hull's. See the Special Trail Management Strategies on Ridgetorivers.org for more info.

Description

Start at the Foothills Learning Center (which you can ride to from town by any number of trails). Start up Lower Hulls Gulch Trail for a few minutes and then take a right turn to head up Red Cliffs Trail. At the top of Red Cliffs, take a left onto Crestline Trail, which rises gradually. After a few minutes on Crestline Trail, take a right onto Sidewinder Trail. This is a nice middle-ring climb with a few steeper sections that tops out at a 3 way intersection with a nice view.

At the intersection, hang a left onto the 8th Street Motorcycle Trail. Enjoy a fast and fun descent down a steep, winding trail with very well burmed turns. So fun! Note that this portion of trail is better to ride in spring or early summer, as during late summer and fall it gets very dusty and loose from the motorcycles tearing it up.

At the bottom of the 8th Street Motorcycle Trail drop you'll be back at the Crestline Trail. Hang a right and pedal a short distance on roughly flat singletrack until you reach the creek crossing which marks the start of Lower Hulls Gulch Trail. From here, bomb lower Hulls all the way back to the Foothills Learning Center Parking area.

The whole loop can easily be done in less than an hour for those times when you need your biking fix but are short on time.
