Designated "Recreational Trail" by the park. Hikers have right-of-way, no fast riding.

See Fort Yargo Outer Loop for fees and more information.

Unlike the Fort Yargo Outer Loop, it may be ridden in any direction at any time.

Description

This trail is mostly easy doubletrack. However, it will be a skill and fitness builder for beginners that are comfortable on Turtle Creek -- Fort Yargo Beginner Loop. It has a few steep and technical climbs. There is also a rooty section. An intermediate-level biker can ride it in a half-hour. The trail is most difficult when riding it counter-clockwise, as described here.

This trail is not as well marked as Fort Yargo Outer Loop but if you follow the hiker signs and yellow markers, you'll find your way.

Ride the main road downhill from parking and cross the bridge. Immediately after crossing the bridge, turn right down a steep bank and ride along the lake. Fort Yargo is on your right here.

Enter the woods. When the trail forks before a fisherman's parking area in the woods, keep right/uphill. Cross a dirt road and follow the trail as it descends and climbs. You'll then come to a steep descent followed by a steep climb up Heart Attack Hill. There are a couple of steep turns, one which requires navigating a big root growing across the trail.

The trail then forks - stay to the left. You soon cross a hardtop road serving the beach area. The trail gets rooty, and goes downhill to the lake. Turn right and follow the shore to another hardtop road. Take the hardtop road to the left and then keep right at the fork. Take a dirt road to the right, following the shoreline.

You'll come to a large grassy area and boat ramp - cross the parking lot for the boat ramp, and take the foot bridge across the lake. Turn left.

Ride uphill over a washed-out area to the pipeline. Turn left and go downhill into the woods. You'll come out at the dam and the outer loop Monster Mile bypass. Cross the dam and follow the dirt road to the campground. Take the first left into the campground, passing the bathhouse on your right. Turn left off the hardtop, crossing a culvert, then a hardtop road, until the you come to a another hardtop road. Turn right and the road will turn to gravel. Look for the trail to the right.

Cross Boys Home Road - use to bypass the grown-up part of Winder Connecting Trail to get to Inner Loop. You'll come to a gully that parallels an elevated sewer line.

You'll cross a hardtop road near the entrance of Camp Twin Lakes. Ride the trail through the woods, over a humpback bridge, to a hardtop path. Turn left and ride hardtop path back to the main parking area.

Easy, wide trail for more casual riding. Heavy foot traffic, but that was expected. 5.8mi — 1h 00m
