Description

East Boundary begins with a moderate climb through thick vegetation. The microclimate changes soon to sandy chaparral, and about half way up this climb (mile 0.4), turn left at the Hazard Peak Trail junction to stay on East Boundary. The Barranca junction at mile 0.9 just below the top of this first climb - again, go straight (left) to remain on East Boundary. After this, a short drop leads to a steeper climb that brings the trail into an open grassy hillside. Several short ups and downs finish at a maintenance tool station - this is the top of the main descent (mile 2.0).

The trail now becomes more rocky and drops steeply and steadily back into chaparral over many large water bars. There is one somewhat sudden right hand corner (mile 2.3), so be alert and keep your speed in check. A long, gradually curving traverse ends at Islay Creek Road.

East Boundary can ridden in the reverse direction, in which case the 1.6 mile climb from Islay Creek Road is relentlessly steep and well-rewarded with great views and an undulating descent to Barranca, Hazard Peak Trail, or Manzanita.

Fun flowy trail. You can pick up some good speed and fly on some of the drops. Loved it.
