Overview
A backcountry ride from the Forest Lea Trails parking that connects 4wd, ATV and the old rail bed. Rough, high speed riding that is good for getting on mileage. The climb to the overlook is the hardest in the Valley - has anyone cleaned it?
Need to Know
Bugs are bad all spring and early summer.
Description
From the Forest Lea Trails parking, head out the dirt road. At the T, turn left onto the 4wd road until you drop down into Alice - about 8k. Ride the abandoned rail line to the first gravel road crossing - go right on it and it quickly breaks down into 4wd and then ATV trail. A wet stream crossing and more fast ATV trail (follow snowmobile signs) brings you back down to the gravel road.
From here head right and continue on gravel *crux is catching the ATV trail on the left at the bottom of the very fast gravel downhill. This ATV trail is super techy along a creek. It hits a T junction - go right and then watch for the super steep entry to the
Canada Flag Overlook Trail just after the sandy section of trail (it may be washed out looking).
Climb, climb, climb. Enjoy the view. Blast down. Go left at bottom and loop around to rail line for a faster ride back. This eventually lollipops back to the way you came out. For variety, take Lubitz Rd (4wd) back instead of Forest Lea. It is fast and fun. A bit of pavement on Doran brings you back to Forest Lea Rd and your car. There's no signage on this adventure, many options other than this loop.
