Description

This downhill trail drops down Aspen Mt., taking in the Dumps terrain above Spar Gulch and Kleenex Corner on the way down to the base of the Gondola and downtown Aspen. This trail is most often ridden from the Sundeck at the top of the Gondola by starting downhill on the East Rim Trail. Jump on to Scotty's after East Rim drops you onto Aspen Mt. Summer Road.

While the trail is extremely steep at times with challenging tight & eroded switchbacks to negotiate, you'll find good smooth traverses between the trails. The trail is mostly dirt with some roots. You'll drop through some dark timber and mostly aspen groves on your way to the steep Spar Gulch road. Spar Gulch is really a fall line ski trail more than a road, watch your speed and make sure your brakes are ready for some extreme usage on this route.

The trail is a combination of historic mining bench cut roads, newer singletrack, and the aforementioned ski trail/road. There is no signage to help you follow the route from top to bottom, but you can refer to this MTB Project map to help you stay on track.

This trail is most often used during the annual Power of Four mountain bike race, but was also a racer favorite when used as part of a stage during the 2015 Big Mountain Enduro. Expect this one to be a part of 2016's Enduro World Series during stop #5 in Aspen/Snowmass.
