“A popular technical singletrack loop among red rock towers.”
— Joshua Grossnickle on May 2, 2013
OverviewThis is one of the most scenic rides in the area, offering beautiful views of cathedral spire, bell rock, and all the other red rock towers in the area.
You'll need to remind yourself to keep a close eye on the tricky, technical singletrack.
You can park in the Absolute bike shop parking lot, but there is also parking at the bell rock trailhead (fees apply). Rides in the area are very well signed, so route finding is not an issue.
This ride can be completed in either direction.
Need To KnowThere's a good lunch or breakfast to be had at the Blue Moon Café next to Absolute bikes.
DescriptionYou'll start out on Slim Shady Trail, which parallels the road and dips through numerous rocky washes. The first half of the trail climbs about 300 feet before descending.
Next, turn left on Templeton. This section is less rocky and flows to the base of cathedral. The highlight of the ride is on slick rock directly under the cathedral spire. Watch out for tourists walking up from the Back o' Beyond road.
Most riders decide to turn around at the switchbacks and retrace their tracks to the Templeton intersection. However, you could add some more miles by going down the switchbacks and adding Baldwin Loop.
Then at the intersection, continue on Templeton under the freeway.
Take a right onto Easy Breezy for some fun, tight turns. The trail runs between the highway and ends with a left turn through a short tunnel under the freeway.
Next you'll take a right on Bell Rock Pathway. This is a popular section with hikers that climbs up around bell rock and descends back to the bell rock trailhead. Be respectful on the final downhill.
