Need to Know

Eagle Wind may be marked directional for all users, please follow the signs.

Description

Climb northeast out of the parking area on a short, steep trail with some fun little rock gardens until you hit the Little Thompson Overlook Trail split at about 1/2 mile. Turn right across the service road. (The service road offers a gentler option for the climb and descent for beginner riders.)

Climb another 1/2 mile on varying smooth and rocky singletrack. The preferred direction is generally to cruise clockwise on the loop. The trail levels out a bit on top of the mesa and offers views of the Front Range, Continental Divide, and Eastern Plains. There is a brief section on a service road with views of Meeker, Longs, and the Twin Sisters. Veer off the road and continue across the mesa.

At its furthest southeast point, the trail turns sharply back northwest. This section cruises through some heavier brush and short technical bits back to the beginning of the loop. Head back down the way you came (super fun, fast descent) or around the loop again if you're feeling good!

Take a rest on the bench here and enjoy the stunning views! Or, just motor on past, because right after this is probably the most fun part of the Eagle Wind trail (heading clockwise).

One of the easier intermediate rides in the area. Most wildflowers are blooming now. Perfect time of the season to ride it.
