“Early season/late season connector trail featuring aspen groves.”
— Don Leinweber on Jun 10, 2014
DescriptionThe Western Sky Ranch Trail connects Forest Hills Drive above Breckenridge through Western Sky Ranch to the top of Gold Run Road.
The lower end of the trail begins 1.6 miles up Forest Hills Drive on a wide doubletrack. At 1,000 feet the doubletrack ends and a singletrack begins on the left side of the doubletrack.
Climb steadily first crossing gravel Gold Run Road, then a paved road, Southern Cross Trail. The trail tops out above a large road cut, descends back to a paved section of Gold Run Road. Continue straight onto the gravel section of Gold Run Road for a short distance. The trail begins again on the right side of the road and terminates on the Fall Classic Trail.
With the exception of a steep, rocky section just below Southern Cross Trail, this trail is an intermediate difficulty.
This trail can be combined with the Upper Flume Trail during mud season and offers some aspen groves for leaf peeping in the fall.
