Description

From the gate near the parking area, the road is flat and paved for about a half mile before making a big right turn onto a double wide dirt road. The road only slightly climbs for a bit, slowly twisting through a pleasant shaded valley. The trail steadily gets steeper until you reach a wide, left-hand switchback, the first of many that will soon elevate you above the valley.

The road/trail dips in and out of the contours of the steep land, which are mostly covered by wild grass, scrub brush, sage, and sparse clumps of trees across the sunny, dry hills.

When descending the fire road, watch for a few skinny, loose single tracks near the top. The first one starts literally a few feet south of the swinging gate-fence near the intersection with Main Divide Truck Trail. Look for the second one on the left a few hundred yards after rejoining the fire road. It's very easy to zoom right past, so slow down and look for a mile marker-type road sign on the left that's bent at an odd angle. The trail starts right after that sign.

There are a few more on the way down, but I'll let you find them. Have fun.
