Overview

This trail was a favorite for MTB'ers in the 90's and slowly fell off the radar. The Camp Tuscazoar Foundation has given permission to allow local volunteers to resurrect the trail and to turn it from an "old-school", straight up and down trail to a more sustainable, flowy trail with great technical features.

This trail has a unique personality and mix of riding that will test you physically, but reward you with some of the best views in the state. You'll earn the sense of accomplishment you'll feel for finishing your ride.

Need to Know

Start from the parking lot behind the museum on Pipestone follow the signs and it will take you in the direction of the recommended loop. This loop minimizes the climbing as much as possible and allows you to hit all of trails, new and old. Be aware - this is a multi-directional trail and is shared with hikers, so please use caution as you ride.

Description

Directions for the "preferred loop." This route is the least elevation and the most direct route. The trail is bi-directional and is shared with hikers, so please exercise caution. Follow the small white arrow markers throughout the trail for the preferred route.

Start at the main camp parking lot, sign in and start the trail behind the museum. Enter the trail onto the Pipestone Trail.

Pioneer Point is a scenic over look of the Tuscarawas Valley. After enjoying the view, continue downhill and veer left to continue on the Pipestone Trail. This trail climbs uphill with some tight switchbacks and ends at the "Troop 5" log cabin. Follow the gravel road straight and stay at the bottom of the hill. Here you'll come upon the Camp's maple syrup harvesting containers, veer right around the tanks and start the trail back uphill, follow until you reach doubletrack. Take this doubletrack about 100 yards until the pipestone trail singletrack continues to your right.

The remainder of Pipestone follows the ridge line and drops down onto the Zoar Valley trail. Follow Zoar Valley trail about .5 miles and you'll see a clay access road going up to the left. When this steep climb levels out (about .10 of a mile) the singletrack starts back up on your right on the Roost Trail. This is a technical trail section with some climbing that leads to Buzzard's Roost. The Roost Trail is a rock formation with the prize view of your ride!

180 degrees from the Roost Trail you'll see markers for the Iron Mine trail. Follow these markers to the East, they lead to a steep downhill into the valley and take you to the Camp's historic Icky's Trail.

Follow Icky's Trail up and over the valley to camp's parking lot. Make sure you save some energy for the gravel grind back up to the parking lot. If you see the "Shoulder Work Ahead" sign, you're on the the right track. Now head out for another lap!

Rode the trails on a gravel bike and it was very manageable though not as quick as a mtb. I'll be back probably still on a gravel bike!
