Description

The best maintained and most used trail of the 4 at Lake McMurtry. A favorite among mountain bikers and the location of the annual McMurtry Madness race leg of the Tour de Dirt.

This trail includes miles of twisty, technical singletrack that is well maintained, clearly marked, and easily the most popular trail at the lake. For night riding, again, easily the most popular trail despite having zero scenic views of the lake. Do keep your eyes open for photographic opportunities as there are plenty, including Dead Turtleneck Falls about 6.5 miles in. If you aren't looking for it, you'll speed right over the top completely unaware.

Much of this trail is shaded by the thick vegetation which is great for summer rides. The last few miles the trail gets much more technical with a few spots known for causing pain. One spot in particular I will note, as I have known a few to break bones in the same area...myself included, breaking my face.

Just what you would expect of a lake side trail in this region. Lots of roots, rocks, leaves, sharp turns, bridges, and steep inclines and declines… 19.8mi
