Family Friendly A mellow series of trails and you can turn around and go back whenever.

Overview

This ride is not especially technical, but if you do the whole thing all the way out and back, it will be a long ride. It is generally uphill going towards the dam but the return route is not a "coasting trail". This route will definitely require pedaling in both out and back directions.

Description

Start at the Keswick Dam River Trail parking lot and head south down the Sacramento River Trail.

After a half mile, turn left and go over the Sacramento River Trail - Bridge Connector and continue straight onto FB Trail. Continue for 2.5 miles, cross Keswick Dam Blvd and continue north on FB Trail.

After another 5.2 miles, stay left towards FB Trail, following signs to FB/Hornbeck Trail. At the 10.2-mile mark, look for the Hornbeck Trail entering from the right and turn left onto the Hornbeck Trail. Continue on the Hornbeck Trail until the parking area on Walker Mine Rd and head north onto the Upper Sac Ditch Trail.

This trail will end at Shasta Dam Blvd, Hwy 151, around the the 21-mile mark. You can end here if you've left a car at this point for a shuttle, or turn around and do the ride the other way.

You can also go over Shasta Dam, down the paved Coram Road on your left until the bottom of the hill. There you'll see the paved Sacramento River Trail, which you can take all the way back to where you parked.

You can choose to park at Shasta Dam and ride the trail backwards also as it rides great in both directions.
