Overview

If you don't want to make the drive to Kickapoo State Park in Danville, IL or Brown County State Park in Nashville, IN, this is your best option in this part of Illinois. Flowing, fast, and winding fun. Camfield will soon become another biking destination for riders in Central Illinois.

There are currently approximately 7.3 miles of trails at Camfield with more mileage planned for future use. Most of it is singletrack, as well as some jeep roads and meadows. The terrain is gently rolling with some steeper ups/downs in places as well as some rooty sections. A good ride for anyone!

Description

Start on the Green Trail (beginner). It is fast and fun with a nice lookout of the lake towards the end of it. From the parking lot, start on the Green Trail, at the left of the bathrooms.

When you come to an opening at about the 2 mile marker, you can either turn right to go back to the parking lot or go left to start the Blue Trail. The Blue Trail starts on the gravel road heading into the woods. Then you'll head on to the Blue Trail (intermediate) which has some good climbs and is a bit more challenging than the Green Trail.

The Orange Trail is off of the Blue Trail and you can choose to ride the Orange Loop or head back to the trailhead. Once to the Orange Trail (intermediate), you get both challenges and fun with some great roller coaster hills.

Each trail is a loop and can be ridden individually to make 7.3 total miles, or you can ride all three together (as on the map) for a 6.6 mile loop.

History & Background

Camp Camfield was converted from a hiking path to a multi-use (hiking/biking) trail system. With the cooperation of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (Lake Shelbyville), and the Central Illinois Mountain Bicycling Association (cimba.org).
