Description

Park at the parking area on CR304 above the Collegiate Peaks Overlook (Midland TH). Head northwest & enjoy this road that follows the old Colorado Midland Railway route, which ran from Colorado Springs to Leadville & Aspen in the late 18- & early 1900s.

Although it is a road, it's enjoyable (for a road at least). You'll pass through some rocky "canyons" & be treated to great views of BV, the Arkansas Valley, & Sawatch range. The road ends at the Hop Gulch trestle, which is no longer standing. Take in the views, then turn around & head back the way you came, at a slightly noticeable uphill gradient.

Recently maintained and was flat, level and no mud after receiving 4-6" of snow the day before. Is perfect for easy miles or kids.
