Description

Ridge looms to the east of Durango. The west face overlooking town is so steep that only hiking trails provide access. For example, there is no way to get from Powerline Trail directly up onto the ridge.

Riders can reach the ridge top in two ways. From the north, take Skyline Trail to Extended Ridge. From the east, take Horse Gulch Road then Wilke's Way will climb relatively gradually to intersect Ridge. Snake Charmer is a good downhill off the ridge.

Once on top, the deformed sandstone provides nonstop chunky goodness. Downhill from north to south is most fun, but it's quite possible to do an up-and-back workout if you are willing to walk.

This is an excellent place to go if you want to do a quick technical ride right near town. Would not recommend for a beginning rider and full suspension is desirable. It is relentlessly rough with some exposed sections. Extended Ridge is even steeper, narrower, and rougher.
