Barney Flow and B-Line trails are downhill only options if riding this loop CW.

Overview

This is a looped ride that can be ridden from town and offers some of the best new and old singletrack Breckenridge has to offer. This ride can be lengthened by incorporating any of a myriad of adjacent trails into the loop.

The loop is excellent CW or CCW.

Need to Know

If riding this trail counterclockwise, B-Line and Barney Flow, and the lower section of Barney Ford are all designated downhill only. Climb Moonstone Trail and Barney Ford Bypass to Red Pig to Barney Ford above the jump line.

Description

Begin on the Lower Flume Trail off of Huron Road. Ride Lower Flume Trail north to Mike's Trail. Climb Mike's Trail to Middle Flume Trail. Ride north and east crossing several roads, and eventually climbing into the forest. Continue on the Middle Flume Trail, passing Tom's Baby on the left and climb steadily to Upper Flume Trail. Continue right on Upper Flume Trail to Slalom. Climb Slalom to Gold Run Road.

(If riding this loop in the counterclockwise direction, Hard Luck is a great alternative to Slalom -> take Fall Classic Trail east from the top of Slalom to Hard Luck Trail. At the bottom of Hard Luck, go left and west on Upper Flume Trail.)

Cross Gold Run Road to Fall Classic and take an immediate right onto Western Sky Trail. Ride Western Sky south and east, dipping down to Gold Run Road again for a moment before continuing as a singletrack beyond a driveway on the left. Continue on Western Sky down to an asphalt road. Go left and climb on the pavement. Take the first right onto GH 38, Prospect Hill Road, a gravel logging and access road. Take a left after crossing below power lines: the right fork being a private driveway. Continue on Prospect Hill Road, passing GH 25, Extension Mill Road on the left. Continue to Prospect Trail, the next right at a timber barrier.

Ride Prospect Trail to Side Door. Go left on Side Door pass Back Door and the downhill only portion of Side Door, dip through a blond mine tailings area and climb left onto Minnie Mine. Continue east on Minnie Mine to X10U8. Descend X10U8 to French Gulch Road. Cross the road and ride through the B&B Trail parking lot to the B&B Trail.

Climb B&B to V3. Go right on V3 and climb to Barney Ford. Descend Barney Ford, passing Red Pig on the right. Take an apparent right onto Barney Ford - this lower portion has been designated no hiking and downhill only. If riding this in the counterclockwise direction, riders must climb the new Barney Ford Bypass to Red Pig to connect back to Barney Ford in the uphill direction. To the left and south is a connection to Juniata Trail.

After ripping through the jumps on Lower Barney, cross Moonstone Road to Moonstone Trail. Descend and take an immediate left onto B-Line Trail, or for the less adventurous, Barney Flow or Moonstone Trail. Descend to Hermit Placer.

At this point and depending where one begins the loop, take either Carter Park back to, well Carter Park on the east side of Breckenridge. If riding this loop from French Gulch, use Hermit Placer, Liesel's Luge, and Wellington Trail to return to your start.

A few alternatives to mention:

At the start of the loop, climb to the Upper Flume Trail in lieu of the Lower Middle combination to Slalom. It's a little more direct and the views from the Upper Flume Trail are spectacular. It is a bit more intense start to the loop.

At the top of V3, continue uphill on Barney Ford, and connect to Juniata Trail for a little less traveled downhill. Descend Juniata Trail, but cross over Baldy Road near the bottom of Juniata Trail (before going over the bridge) to the Lower Barney jump line.

A hot lap on Hard Luck, in the clockwise direction is a good addition. From the bottom of Hard Luck, take a right onto Upper Flume Trail. Ride to Gold Run Road, take a right and climb to GH 25 Extension Mill Road (there is timber mining wreckage at this intersection). Cross GH 23, Preston Way and continue steeply uphill on Extension Mill Road passing Fall Classic Trail near the top of Hard Luck on the right. Continue uphill and right at the next 3-way intersection on Extension Mill Road, passing One Step Over on the left back to Prospect Hill Road and the description above.

Hot lap Back Door -> Side Door

Cross French Gulch Road at the bottom of Minnie and climb B&B to Turk's Trail to V3. Or climb Turk's to Sallie Barber Road to Barney or Juniata downhill, etc.

If ridden CCW, Moonstone Trail is the only climbing option, B-Line and Barney Flow are downhill only.
