Overview

Enjoy purpose-built bike trails with lots of singletrack, good switchbacks, a few short technical sections, and fast winding descents. The tread is mostly a firm, coarse-sandy soil with large rounded rocks. This is a great ride if other local trails are too muddy. You can ride this in either direction, but clockwise (as mapped) is the most fun!

Description

Begin by parking off Gates Lane in Santa Clara, Utah. Look for the singletrack trail heading south up the hill. Hop on this trail and start climbing. You'll eventually pass a water tank, after which the trail levels out and continues until it T's at a dirt road. Take a right and head up the road, where you'll quickly see the parking area for the Cove Wash Trail on your left. You can also drive to the trailhead if you have a high clearance vehicle.

From the Sand Cove trailhead, take the Rim Rock trail southeast on the doubletrack. The doubletrack switchbacks right and drops down into Sand Cove Wash. There is a technical ledgy spot about halfway down the hill that will test the skills of an intermediate rider.

Drop into the wash, stay left, and then climb the hill on the singletrack to your right (south). At the top of the climb, it becomes doubletrack again. Follow this doubletrack keeping right at the junctions. This will lead you to a bike fence crossing.

After crossing the fence, take the trail to the left (Rim Reaper). This loop is a collection of short trails, but they are well signed. The sequence of trails from here is: Rim Reaper, left onto Rim Ramble, left onto Rim Rock, left onto Rim Runner, skip the connector, then left onto Rim Rock again, right onto Rim Ramble, right onto Rim Reaper, right onto Rim Rock and return to Sand Cove Trailhead.

It sounds complicated, but each trail is clearly signed at the junctions. If you miss one, it's all good, you'll still have a great ride.
